What went wrong at Borders?
So what happened to Borders? An early innovator in controlling inventory, there was expert staff at its Ann Arbor headquarters and store managers who believed in the value of book-selling. At its peak, Borders superstores had all the attributes of good book-selling—extensive selections, browsing space, coffee bars, and outreach programs to surrounding communities. I am baconslave - and a total expatriate of the Bay Area, suffice it to say. My comments will continue to evolve as with this turn of events is my Local Literary Deficiency (LLD) last straw - with identification of the "printed" - most implicitly meaning "immutable" WORD rejection FINANCIAL act of the California Central Valley. Then again, our amazing weather in the last few weeks may very well be a foreshadowing of a bonanza in agriculture - in the advent of the oncoming Severe Weather Flux. Where my academic nerd cringes, my hopeful Terraformist surges!
I used to stop at a Borders in suburban Wilmington, Del., on my way to Air Force Reserve duty in Hampton, Va. Too bad about the bankruptcy deal, but the place wasn't an architectural gem. Just a big parking lagoon.
This isn't surprising - Borders over the Atlantic in England went out of business two years ago now. I think its possible that both bookshops and music stores won't be around for much longer - a very sad state of affairs indeed.
